Every woman has a story.

As a woman, what do you want your story to be? When your time’s up and you reach the end of your days, what story do you want people to tell consistently? That you were kind always, or that you were loyal to a fault? Maybe you want them to remember you as a sensitive soul, who always saw the very best in others?

Who gives a fuck what other people say about you?

What’s your real story? When you’re alone in the dark, just before you fall asleep, what’s the truth inside of your heart? Inside of the very cells of your body? What’s the story buzzing, coursing, and zapping through your neural pathways? The story that you go to bed believing about yourself, and that you’ll wake up tomorrow subscribed to?

What is your story?

Every woman has a mother with a story, and a grandmother with a story…

Every potentiality that exists inside of a woman has also existed inside of her mother, and her mother’s mother. And all of the experiences and knowledge gained by a grandmother, and mother are embedded within her, and shared with her daughter, and her daughter’s daughter(s).

You may be familiar with a little-big term called “Transgenerational Trauma.” If not, watch Kourtney Kardashian try to explain some of the “science” behind how it works:

While it’s true that women are born with a finite number of eggs – so all of your potential “daughters” could theoretically already exist inside of you – women don’t make children alone. Other genetics are involved.

What I think Kourtney’s trying to say is that inside every woman are the raw materials for an entire lineage. Every woman carries the story of her mother, of her grandmother and so on. And every woman can pass those cellular, embedded stories to her offspring – either like a virus, or an inheritance of super powers.

Having possession of that source material is no flimsy or trivial thing, whether you want kids or not.

Given that knowledge, wouldn’t today – RIGHT THIS SECOND – be the absolute perfect time to pay attention to your story? And revise it if need be?

If you’re new here, all I ever say is some variation of the same thing:

Choose yourself. Believe in yourself. Follow your dreams. Show up to do the work.

My messaging serves two purposes. Everything I say, write, create, and share is a memo to self, to keep me focused. The second purpose of my messaging is to help inspire and motivate others. Girl, if I can do anything I promise so can you. I mean that so deeply.

I believe in myself. I believe I have a raw power and genuine goodness to share with people. I believe that just by default of existing in my own lane, doing what sparks MY joy and standing 10 toes down, I’m inherently inspiring. And some days that’s enough.

But somedays I don’t believe that. Some days I can’t see the point. I’m afraid of everything, the vast nothingness, the deep unknown(s). Sometimes I think for sure everybody hates me – even my close friends. Some days I worry I’ll never work again.

Luckily, I’ve got the messaging to fall back on. It yanks me up off the ground after I’ve licked all my wounds. Because I’ve worked on the foundation of it. I’ve programmed that messaging into my brain. I’ve told myself the story I WANT to believe about myself. I chose the story, I wrote it and I spoke it into and over myself like, my Grandmother praying over me on my birthday.

I do it for my Granny. I do it for my Aunty.

I wrote a book once upon a time about some of my messier stories. In it I talk about my two favorite women: My great aunt and my grandmother. Both born in the 1930s in a colonial place, in a very sexist time. Both adapted and responded to it as best they could, given what they had at their disposal.

When they shared stories of their youth, and stories of the past they both spoke empowerment to me. They gave me humor, wisdom,  insight, and fortitude. They gave me what they knew I’d need in order to carry on the messaging.

But I’m not having kids. That’s a definite, hard no for me. There are other broads in my lineage to  handle that part.

I live loud, and fast, and free. My main job is to pass the messaging and the tools onward to other women through “sisterhood” and simply in conversation. My job – and my story that I will write – is reminding you that you’re POWERFUL actually, and the least and most you could do you with your life is FOLLOW ALL OF YOUR DREAMS.

Re-write Your Story

I have negative patience for women who quit before they start. I’m not interested in any of your excuses, or reasons why you *couldn’t* make the time to connect with your passion. Girl, I don’t care for what didn’t happen. Talk to me in action words. Tell me who you’re going to be – not about the version of you who buckles with anxiety.

What is your story now, today? And what story do you want tomorrow?

Don’t write your story for attention or likes. The validation of strangers will never sustain you. Instead, do it for all the women who came before you who didn’t have nearly as many options, opportunities, or as much time. Do it for the women who carried your fabric hundreds of years before you ever double tapped a smartphone screen.

Do it for the women who never had a chance to say they “couldn’t concentrate.” You know, the ones who never got the chance to go to school, let alone ever even have a job.

What if you went after your dreams with the fire of vengeance for all the dead women who longed for art, or literature, dance, fashion, or photography? Things we have at our fingertips daily. What if you followed all the way through on your big, whimsical ideas for them? Wouldn’t that be a vibe?

Alternatively, you could always follow your dreams just for you. Because you wanted to.
