A Safe Revolution For Marginalized People?

One week after the US presidential election, people are posting online about not giving up, organizing, and getting involved in the work. It’s not all posting rhetoric. People are afraid of the future. They want to take whatever control they have left over their lives. But what about marginalized people who don’t feel safe in activist spaces? Those who don’t know how to organize, may have social anxiety, or may not be physically able to rally? Are there proactive ways for marginalized people to engage in the collective work ahead?

Absolutely, YES!

Given current events – both globally (Amsterdam, Lebanon, Palestine), and in the United States – anyone chronically online may likely feel helpless. Like maybe you thought we lived in a better world than this. Maybe you’d hoped something less terrifying and not down right evil would have turned the tide by now. Babes, hear me deep in your bones when I tell you the change you’re looking for in the world starts with you.

3 Proactive Ways Marginalized People Can Engage in Revolution

Defund & divest from the enemies’ blood-lined pockets of death.

Hi so right, the call is coming from inside your house. You are sugar-babying the rich. You’re part of the problem. Every time you get Starbucks, or shop Sephora, or read the Washington Post you’re feeding the beast and it’s babies.

The war machine calls you with their new movies, and series, and beautiful actors. And every month you pay it.

You know that. You’ve always known that. Today is the day you’re going to do something about it though. There are always proactive ways to engage in dismantling systems which oppress you and harm others.

The bottom line here is the bottom line, always. Where is your  money? What platforms are you subscribed to? Where do you shop regularly? If/when you do your monthly expenses are your creature comforts – Amazon Prime, Paramount or Disney, truly worth it to you? Is it so valuable to you to watch their programming when many of their CEOs support apartheid, genocide, an increased use of AI that would leave thousands or millions of people jobless?

Are your shows that important? Does it matter so much to you to be able to buy nice stuff? Can you not endure without material consumerism? Kim, there’s people that are dying.

Yank your money back and do it today.

Cancel autopay. Unsubscribe, and close the accounts. Today, babes.

You can’t talk shit about how messed up corporate media is when you’re paying into it. Your money makes you complicit. Either you’re with the bad guys or you’re against them.

Get seriously proactive about your own health.

What, like now isn’t the exact precise time to tell you to drink more water? To stretch? To journal, meditate, start your morning with movement (IF YOU ARE ABLE)?

Listen, I know you hate exercise. But get over it.

A safe way to rebel against a dangerous society that does more harm than good is to be good to yourself.

Solfeggio Frequency music is a super easy way help calm your mind – especially if you struggle to sit still like I do. The best I’m ever doing is 10 minutes of upright, legs crossed meditation. But I can listen to some sound bath hippy music for 3 hours at a time. Don’t knock it, until you’ve vibed it.

Why be afraid of the future, when you can be fully engaged in the present and your own well-being? The state doesn’t own your body – yet, anyway. So if you can find ways to care for yourself DO IT. If you’re able to walk, or jump, twist, or lift any part of yourself – START today. Legit.

Get into a quick cleanse, and detox. Put that money you’re going to take away from Starbucks and Amazon into your belly with some leafy greens and fruit.

I don’t know how to explain to you that you should care about your own body and health in a non superficial way.

But let’s try this angle: Do you want to keep working a job you hate for the rest of your life? Just to pay for health insurance that could still bankrupt you if you fall ill? Because you live in a place where the government doesn’t believe you deserve healthcare? But will happily jack your paycheck for bombs?

Decrease the burden on yourself. Take care of your own health.

Imagine that you radically and whole-heartedly love every cell of your own body. Again: Kim, there’s people that are dying. And you’re doing fuck all with your lungs and breath and functional motor skills? It’s giving ungrateful, babes.

Support Independent Artists & Small Businesses

I know that you knew this was coming. But anyone who’s always online knows that social media is full of creatives, activists, entrepreneurs and “influencers.” And guess what? These are the exact types of people are proactively engaged in reimagining new possibilities for their marginalized peers.

Myself, and others like me who’re leading unorthodox lives, and constantly posting about alternative practices are people you can and should subscribe to.  Listen, I’m not for everybody. But I’m nearly positive you follow content creators who make you laugh daily. I’m sure you have friends in real life who’re illustrators, poets, actors, activists, therapists, and you scroll past them. Or you lurk in their stories and never share their work.

Bro, what are you doing? These are the people trying to change the world. They’re out on a limb, being bold and radical, and furious on your behalf. The very least you can do is encourage them to keep going.

The safest thing you can do is share their work. Give them their flowers. Tell other people about them.

Marginalized People Must Engage

First off you know who the real minorities are right? It ain’t a marginalized person. It’s pretty clear from centuries of violence, injustice, and downright bullshit that one very tiny group of people are so riddled with fear that they can’t help but try to destroy everything.

The truth is “marginalized” itself is a term of violence.

It means people pushed to the sidelines, to the edge. Similarly to a certain people currently being fucking exterminated to the edge of their birthlands. That’s what we’re dealing with in reality, in this world.

But just because the world is horrifically violent don’t ever believe for one single second that you’re powerless against it. All you have to do is pick one thing on the list above – better if you pick two or all three, but… If you commit to amplifying the voices and work of your friends, you’re making a difference.

When marginalized people become proactive about change they engage in taking back power.

I know you hope you’ll never have to run for, or fight for your life. Me too, babes. But if you think a militarized local or state police force would never use robotic dogs on you then you’ve clearly not been paying attention.

Where do you think they get the money for these things? Wait, don’t think about it too much. I don’t want you to get stressed and paralyzed by fear. We’re being proactive here:

Take your money, time and energy away from corporate entities. They don’t care about you. You’re just an account number to them.

Pour your energy into your emotional, mental, and physical health.

Show love to artists, entrepreneurs, local small businesses. You don’t have buy. Just REPOST them. TALK ABOUT THEM. Tell others. Post things that match your values.

Any marginalized person can get in on the revolution. Right now. Today.
