The Big SEO Fix that anyone can apply to boost their ranking is consistent content writing.

Shocker, I know. Of course there are any number of technical strategies and design techniques you can apply to give your website every possible edge in ranking higher. But a lot of good all that detail does without actual relevant content.

How Do I Get Higher SEO Ranking For My Website?

The no fluff, bottom line is that your website needs consistent content that stays on-theme. Your website’s content theme is directly tied to your business message & mission. I write about both here.

Once you have your message & mission down, you can remix, revise, and rework it in a myriad of ways – making sure to include the set of key phrases, and keywords that your business wants to rank for.

People often ask me “how do I do SEO?” And the simple answer is write content often. There’s no shortcut around it. A 5 page website can load up on keywords, and have all the necessary technical SEO, but another website in the same industry that has more fresh content and frequently updated pages will continually out-rank it.

Achieving strong SEO ranking for small business requires consistent content.

Here are 3 Important Guidelines For Making SEO Content

1) Know Your Audience

Once you know your audience and buyer your  only job is to perfect your messaging so that it directly answers their need for ease. At the end of the day, everyone is looking for something to make some part of their life easier.

Beyond just knowing your audience, and their needs, and how to speak to them, you have to care about them. Genuinely.

You have to want to help them reach the solutions they need.  When you truly care about your audience, you’ll believe that you absolutely can help them. And they’ll believe it too.

2) Answer Questions Clearly

People want to find what they need fast.

Like when you’re looking for recipes online. You don’t want to read about the author’s trip to Tuscany. You want the ingredients.

Similarly, when making content for SEO focus on giving people what they came for and doing it clearly, in a straight forward way.

If you have a knack for writing, of course follow your own style. But if your goal is SEO, don’t fill your copy with useless fluff. Just tell people what they need to know and direct them to your services/solutions.

I had an SEO client that was OBSESSED with their branding – and the sound of their own voice, among other things.

Almost every call was about how the most important thing was that the the Trademark and Register symbols were always everywhere, and that the 800 number HAD to be in the title.

But none of these elements has any baring on the SEO whatsoever. Furthermore, people searching for their specific service weren’t looking for a company to boast credentials. They were looking for clear, direct steps to achieve a specific task.

And that’s how most people use search engines. And that’s how businesses need to approach their SEO ranking strategy.

3) Make Authentic Content That Helps People

Don’t try to be like anybody or sound like anybody. Write articles and make posts that feel natural to you and if nothing feels natural to you, book an hour with me and we’ll go over websites and creators that you resonate with to find a style of content that fits.

The purpose of your content is always to help the person who finds it. In some way your content should either be informative, entertaining, inspiring, or otherwise helpful. That’s always your primary objective. Because anything else will miss the mark. People have to feel like they’re getting something they need or want, or they’re closing the window and you’re losing the sale. Period.

Total SEO is more than just copywriting

Obviously, there’s a good amount of plannig and research and technical, under the hood stuff. But every part of that stuff – outside of your site design – is WORDS. As a business owner, it’s ultimately your responsibility to choose words that connect with your buyers. You can keep saying you’re the best, and you’re the only one who can do what you do like you do it. But no one is searching for that guy. People are searching for what they need now. And if you want to reach them faster, your website has to rank higher.

Focus your SEO copy on what your customers want.
