As I enter my 9th year as a business owner I find myself at a familiar crossroads: How do I fulfull my mission of empowering women creatives and entreprenuers to go after their dreams full-throttle, when I continually encounter women who allow their projects to flounder, and themselves become preoccupied with the everpresent stream of available distractions?

I can’t want your potential more than you do. That’s just fuckin silly.

So I put together a list of hard-hitting questions that I think could actually help some people face their own bullshit. And the best part is I won’t have to sit there and listen to you lie to yourself as you answer them. You can talk about what you want to do all day for the next 6 months, and the 6 months after that. And then in 3 years you can still not have achieved your goals because you gave up on yourself and it won’t have anything to do with me.

Want To Do Something About It? Answer These Questions To Help You Take Action.

  1. Do you believe that you personally are capable of helping others? If not, then keep your useless opinions to yourself. Don’t speak or share an idea, unless you believe that you personally can execute and implement YOUR own idea, AND that idea can actually help others.
  2. If yes – Do you personally want to help others? Do you have a genuine desire to personally assist other people in improving their personal circumstances (in whatever regard they need)? If not, again shut up then. Opinions without personal intention of action, are useless noise inside of an unproductive dialogue in which you only engage for your personal emotional satisfaction and not to further any progressive movement for the benefit of others.
  3. Are you willing to step outside of your comfort zone to help others? It’s cut and dry here. Are you willing to challenge yourself to abandon your familiar behavior patterns and excuse gymnastics? Can you admit to yourself ALL of the ways you fall back into comfortable patterns, and what triggers your patterns, rationalizations, and the coping mechanisms that keep you stuck? And, more than that can you commit to developing new routines to break your own patterns – with the ultimate goal of HELPING others?
  4. Barring physical bodily harm, what fears do you have about coming out of your comfort zone?
  5. Do you believe that, despite the initial perceived and on-going real challenge of leaving your comfort zone, that you could potentially still do so (leave your comfort zone, even though it will be challenging)?
  6. Are you willing to show up consistently to try?
  7. Are you willing to set aside time to work on this and keep, and hold, that time NO MATTER WHAT comes up schedule-wise? Are you willing to say to others that you have something important that you can’t miss? (The “important thing” here is YOU battling and overcoming your fears so that you can achieve YOUR GOAL of helping others.)

PUT IT IN PERSPECTIVE:

Do you want to help others, or do you want to be helped by others? It’s one or the other but it aint both.

If others show up to help you, how far are you willing to meet them and yourself in order to be helped? People can’t do everything for you. At some point you have to start behaving like a conscious autonomous being who is in fact in control of their own thoughts, attention, and motor skills. You’re not stephen hawkins. You can do more than you’re pretending.

What does “help” mean to you? What do you want help with? And how will YOU know that YOU have received help? If you’re asking for something you better know what it is and you better know when it arrives.

Let’s cut the bullshit.

One thing you see consistently in creative freelance work is people wanting something they can not articulate. Another thing you see a lot of us people quitting at the point where they must use their words to formulate a concrete idea. People give up on themselves and their ideas very easily. Because if being an entreprenuer was easy then everyone would do it and follow-through. Entreprenuership is no different from anything in life we deeply desire. It demands our time and perserverance and most people are not built to perservere.

Most people endure normalcy, and mundanity because the alternative requires too much from them and they know it. People rarely want help. They want someone to do the hard thing for them, and then pat them on the back and say “oh wow, you’re so cool!”

But that cool idea isn’t going to bring itself into reality if you never bring yourself to focus on the tasks at hand. Aww, life is so harrrrd. You have running water, functioning motor skills, and internet connection. But you simply just can not find the time to do the things that will bring you where you want to be.

But reposting a reel on instagram? You always have time for that!
